Why this icon Poombarai grows Kodaikanal hill garlic (GI-tagged, 2019). Source: en.wikipedia.org
Terraced hills, a garlic market, chai as the clouds roll in.
The story
A cool, misty morning in Poombarai: little mushrooms push up through the grass at the edge of the terraces, close by, while young garlic grows in rows on the terraces stepping up to the village's bright roofs and a traveller on the terrace path holds a glass of chai.
Why this picture
Poombarai, a hill village at 1,920 m in the Palani Hills, grows Kodaikanal malai poondu, the GI-tagged hill garlic, on stepped terraces round its bright-roofed houses. In the cool, damp months small mushrooms come up in the grass along the terrace edges, and on winter mornings cloud fills the valleys below the village.
The sky wears Kolam, from Tamil Nadu and the south.
The motion
Dew glints on the grass; the mushrooms and the long blades stir; clouds drift over the hills; birds cross the sky; steam rises from the chai; the pines sway; the sun's rays turn. A 16-second loop.
Colour
Poombarai takes Mustard Leaf #E2E418, one of the three Fields colours — with its icon in Steel Grey on it.
