Three granite giants, shoulder to shoulder in the mist.
The story
A misty morning at the Pillar Rocks viewpoint: three sheer granite pillars, tufts of shola green on their ledges, stand shoulder to shoulder above a gorge full of cloud with the Palani hills behind them, pines rise from the slope below, and a traveller at the rail takes a picture.
Why this picture
Pillar Rocks, three vertical granite columns about 122 m tall, split by deep fissures, rise side by side across a forested gorge in the Palani Hills near Kodaikanal, seen from a railed viewpoint; shrubs root on their ledges and tops, cold mornings from November to February fill the valleys with cloud, and pine plantations cover the slopes.
The motion
The cloud in the gorge thickens and thins; the pines sway; birds cross the sky; the flowers in the bed twinkle. A 16-second loop.
Colour
Kodaikanal takes Valley Blue #4F87C7, one of the three Valleys colours — with its icon in white on it.
