84 places. 111 Zostels.
India · Nepal · Thailand. Every place has its own icon, colour and story, drawn the way the Brand Manual draws the Taj Mahal, Charminar and India Gate — and its own quiet loop.
The symbol becomes every place
The Zostel symbol turns into each of the 84 icons in three beats — fill, flow, carve. It travels the whole journey while it's on screen; pick a place to go straight to it.
Fill. The symbol's outline fills in behind it.
Flow. That shape flows into the place's outline, turning 60°.
Carve. The place lands on top and the fill falls away, opening its arches, windows and gaps.
Every place ships the move as a Lottie — zostel-to-<place>.json — for stories, the app and the web.
Every place
84 icons: the landmark people travel for, or the thing they do, eat or see there. Filter by landscape, switch the style — Loop brings every one of them to life — search by name, region or icon, and pick a place to open its own page: its cover, its story and its kit. 43 have a map we made for travellers so far: look for the City map chip.
Youth-hostel towns
Towns with a Government of India youth hostel; Zostel isn't here yet. 62 icons, drawn by the same rules as the places above: the landmark people travel for, or the thing they do, eat or see there. Filter by landscape, switch the style, search by name, state or icon, and download the files.

The kit
Everything a place needs: its tile, icon, display picture and lockup, its colour, its words, its loop and the symbol becoming it — every file ready to download. Every place also has a page of its own, like /destinations/pushkar.
Pushkar
Bells and bright cloth. The camels dress up for the fair.
Pushkar takes Tangerine #F15A22 (sunny-2), one of the three Sunny Days colours — with its icon in white on it.

The sun stands behind it; its rays turn a 60° step each loop. 7.2 s, seamless.
The symbol becomes Pushkar and turns back — a Lottie loop for stories, the app and the web.
Circle-safe: the colour, the icon and the name — for chats, socials and the app.
A poster for every place
Pick a place. Its profile opens first: its cover above, its tile standing on the cover’s edge, its name, its line and its verbs, LIVE IT. NOW at the foot, the way its page reads on a phone. Or its scene with the words in its sky, its icon, its verbs. On brand by construction, ready for a story, a feed or a wall. Every Zostel can have its own, and every new one gets it on day one.
How a place icon is drawn
Every place where Zostel is live has its own icon — the landmark people travel there for, or the thing they do there — drawn in the Brand Manual's city language, and a kit: its colour, a DP, a lockup, its words and the symbol becoming it.
The rules
- One icon per place: the landmark people travel for, or the thing they do, eat or see there.
- Monuments: #636466 city grey, detail cut out of the silhouette (arches, windows, bands) — never drawn on top.
- Objects: flat landscape colours, no outlines, no gradients.
- Stand everything on a ground line; about 110 units tall, like the Brand Manual's Taj, Charminar and India Gate.
- Tiles and DPs: the icon in one colour on the place's colour — white on dark shades, Steel Grey on light ones.
- Lockup: the Brand Manual's horizontal lockup; the place's name under the wordmark, in its spacing, in Warm Orange.
Adding a place
- Add it to
brand/tools/places/destinations.py: its name, region, landscape, where it is and which Zostels are there. -
Draw its icon in
brand/tools/places/icons/with the kit, add it to that module'sICONS, and look before you ship:python3 brand/tools/places/preview.py icons.<module> - Write its line, its three verbs and why its icon is what it is (with a source) in
brand/tools/places/stories.py. -
Run
python3 brand/tools/build_places.py. It writes the icon, tile, mono, DP, lockup, PNGs, the Lottie and the place's loop (its landscape's move), and this page picks the place up on the next build.
