See the 1850 Retreat. Lose an afternoon in the deodars.
The story
A spring afternoon at Mashobra: the Retreat, a long timber house with dhajji walls, stands on its lawn at the edge of the cedar forest, tulips flower in beds along the garden path, two blue magpies sail over on their long tails, and a traveller in the garden raises a camera to frame it.
Why this picture
The Retreat at Chharabra above Mashobra, built about 1850 of timber with dhajji walls, a timber frame filled with stone and brick, sits on terraced lawns cut into deodar and oak forest some 2,500 m up. Since 2023 it has been open to visitors, and its tulip garden flowers in April with snow peaks on the skyline on clear days.

The motion
Two magpies fly across the whole sky; the deodars sway; the tulips nod; the sun's rays turn. A 16-second loop.
