Climb Chembra. Halfway up, the lake is a heart.
The story
Morning on Chembra: from the trail above it, the heart-shaped lake lies on its grassy shelf below, shola forest tucked in the folds around it and the tea estates spread far below, while a traveller with a trekking pole points it out.
Why this picture
Hridaya Saras, the heart-shaped lake that never dries, sits on a shelf halfway up Chembra Peak (2,100 m), Wayanad's highest; its shape shows from the trail that climbs on above it, through montane grassland with shola forest in the folds, up from the tea estates of Meppadi. Just after the monsoon the grass is at its greenest.
The sky wears Khovar, from Hazaribagh, Jharkhand.
The motion
A flock of birds crosses the whole sky and clouds drift past; the lake's water lines run; butterflies flit over the grass; the long grass and the shola sway; the sun's rays turn. A 16-second loop.
Colour
Wayanad takes Paddy Green #B2D234, one of the three Fields colours — with its icon in Steel Grey on it.
