Mist over the estates. Red cherries on the branch.
The story
A misty morning in a coffee estate: close by, a branch heavy with red cherries reaches in among its leaves, and beyond it a traveller picks into a basket among bushes as tall as he is, a picker with her basket on her head further down the row, under tall shade trees wrapped in pepper vines; across the valley the hills rise out of the mist.
Why this picture
Kodagu grows about a third of India's coffee, all of it shade-grown: bushes kept to about 2 m under two tiers of tall trees whose trunks carry black pepper vines. The cherries ripen red from October to January, and mist fills the valleys of the Western Ghats on cool mornings.
The sky wears a faint Khovar, from Hazaribagh, Jharkhand.
The motion
The sun's rays turn; the shade trees and the coffee bushes sway; birds cross the sky. A 16-second loop.
Colour
