Birdwatch at Okhla by morning. Sector 18 by night.
The story
A misty winter morning at the Okhla Bird Sanctuary: a painted stork wades close by in front of the reeds and another far out in the Yamuna's shallows, Noida's towers stand pale in the haze, and a traveller on the watchtower out in the water watches through binoculars.
Why this picture
The Okhla Bird Sanctuary is a reed-fringed wetland on the Yamuna, held back by the low Okhla Barrage where the river enters Uttar Pradesh. From November to March painted storks, herons, kingfishers and ducks winter here, busiest between 6 and 9 in the morning; a watchtower stands in the shallows, and Noida's high-rises line the far bank.
