Lie back in the green saucer. Deodars all round, a lake inside.
The story
A sunny afternoon at Khajjiar: a traveller rides a saddled pony round the rim of the great green saucer, the pony-man walking behind, the little lake and its island in the bowl below and tall deodars standing all round.
Why this picture
Khajjiar, about 24 km from Dalhousie at some 2,000 m, is a near-round meadow dished like a saucer on a small plateau, with a small, shrinking lake and a floating island of weeds at its centre and a wall of tall deodars all round its rim, in the deodar, blue pine and oak forest of the Chamba hills. Saddled ponies wait at the meadow's edge to carry visitors round it.
The sky wears Gond scales, from Madhya Pradesh.
The motion
Clouds sail across the whole sky; the sun's rays turn; the tall deodars sway; the pony walks and the pony-man walks behind it; another pony grazes; flowers glint in the grass. A 16-second loop.
Colour
Khajjiar takes Jade #04B495, one of the three Fields colours — with its icon in Steel Grey on it.
