Why this icon Kasol sits on the Parvati, the base for the valley's treks. Source: en.wikipedia.org
Hop the boulders. Hear the Parvati roar. Start the trek.
The story
An October morning on the Parvati at Kasol: a traveller steps from boulder to boulder along the river's edge, the water winding down the valley over big grey stones, pine forest climbing the valley walls, a few guesthouses on the slope and snow peaks upstream.
Why this picture
Kasol lies at 1,580 m on the floor of the narrow Parvati valley, 3.5 km below Manikaran: a small riverside village of guesthouses among the pines. The glacier-fed Parvati runs fast and clear over big rounded boulders, with pine, deodar and fir climbing the steep sides to snow peaks; October brings clear skies, snow on the tops and lower water at the edges as the trekking season starts.
The sky wears Khovar, from Hazaribagh, Jharkhand.
The motion
The water lines run, row against row, and break white at the stones; the sun's rays breathe over the peaks; two birds cross the sky; a redstart bobs its tail on a stone. A 16-second loop.
Colour
Kasol takes Valley Blue #4F87C7, one of the three Valleys colours — with its icon in white on it.
