Why this icon Yachts have sailed Naini Lake since 1880; its club is India's highest. Source: en.wikipedia.org
Catch the wind on Naini Lake. Seven hills all around.
The story
A breezy summer afternoon on Naini Lake: a traveller sails a little single-masted yacht across the lake, its pale sails full, below the wooded hills and the town's red roofs.
Why this picture
Naini Lake, a long crescent in a bowl of seven wooded hills at about 1,940 m, has been sailed since the 1880s; the Naini Tal Yacht Club (1910) still races small sailing boats there, and its June regatta fills the lake with sails. Weeping willows trail at the water's edge and deodar and oak clothe the hills.
The sky wears Khovar, from Hazaribagh, Jharkhand.
The motion
The pennant flutters; the water lines run, row against row; far sails rock on the breeze; clouds drift; the willows sway; the sun's rays turn. A 16-second loop.
Colour
Nainital takes Lagoon #34C2D7, one of the three Waters colours — with its icon in Steel Grey on it.
