Why this icon Doodhpathri means 'valley of milk' — its streams run white over the stones. Source: en.wikipedia.org
Follow the milk-white stream. Lie in the meadow. Breathe.
The story
A bright summer day in Doodhpathri, the 'valley of milk': a traveller sits on a boulder at the edge of the Shaliganga, toes in the water, as the stream foams milk-white down the meadow; saddled ponies and a few sheep graze, daisies, buttercups and forget-me-nots dot the grass, dark firs stand on the meadow and wooded hills ring it.
Why this picture
Doodhpathri is a bowl-shaped alpine meadow at about 2,730 m in the Pir Panjal, 42 km from Srinagar, ringed by pine and fir. Its name is read as the 'valley of milk' for the Shaliganga stream that foams white over its boulders. In summer herders bring their animals up, ponies wait for riders and daisies and buttercups fill the grass.
The sky wears Khovar, from Hazaribagh, Jharkhand.
The motion
The stream's water lines run; clouds drift to and fro; the sun's rays turn; the ponies and the sheep graze; the flowers twinkle. A 16-second loop.
Colour
Doodhpathri takes Valley Blue #4F87C7, one of the three Valleys colours — with its icon in white on it.
