Leave the quiet beach. Find Yana's two black peaks.
The story
Morning at Yana: two black limestone towers rise straight out of the evergreen forest, tufts of green on their ledges and the sun coming up behind them, and a traveller climbs the last stone steps beside a forest stream as a hornbill flies over.
Why this picture
The Yana rocks, Bhairaveshwara Shikhara (120 m) and the slimmer Mohini Shikhara (90 m), are two separate towers of black crystalline karst in the Sahyadri forest inland from Kumta, rugged and fluted, with plants rooted on their ledges; a forest trail and some 260 stone steps climb to their foot beside a clear stream, under tree ferns and tall evergreens. Malabar pied hornbills fly between the tall trees.

The motion
The sun's rays turn; the stream runs; the traveller climbs; a hornbill crosses the sky; the trees and the tree ferns sway. A 16-second loop.
