Climb to Mehrangarh. Watch the Blue City spread below.
The story
Golden hour from a rooftop in the blue city: Mehrangarh glows red-gold in the low sun on its sheer rock above the blue-washed houses, a langur sits on the next parapet, washing dries on a neighbour's roof, and a traveller on a terrace photographs the fort.
Why this picture
Mehrangarh (1459) rises straight out of a rhyolite hill some 120 m above Jodhpur, its red sandstone walls up to 36 m high, crowned by palaces with latticed windows; the leafless thhor grows on the rock. Below it the old town's flat-roofed houses are washed blue, every terrace looks up at the fort, and gray langurs live right in the city. The low winter sun turns the walls orange-gold; rock pigeons wheel over the rooftops of the hill once called the 'mountain of birds'.

The motion
The sun's rays turn; a flock of pigeons flies across the sky while others wheel over the old town; the washing swings on its line; the langur's tail twitches; the neem sways. A 16-second loop.
Colour
Jodhpur takes Sunshine #FFDE18, one of the three Sunny Days colours — with its icon in Steel Grey on it.
