Why this icon Rajgundha's meadows have no road in and a sky full of stars. Source: zostel.com
Trek in from Billing. Light the fire. Find the Milky Way.
The story
A clear, moonless autumn night on the Rajgundha meadow: a traveller stands by a stone-ringed campfire, staff in hand, pointing up at the Milky Way arching over the dark Dhauladhar; two little tents glow on the grass, and far off, where the meadow rises to the forest, a few houses are lit.
Why this picture
Rajgundha is a hamlet of wood-and-stone houses on high meadows (about 2,500 m) in the upper Uhl valley, most often reached on foot from Billing. With no light pollution and the clear post-monsoon skies of late September and October, the Milky Way stands out over the Dhauladhar.
The motion
The stars and the Milky Way twinkle; a star falls; the fire flickers and its ring of warmth turns; windows light up; the deodars sway. A 16-second loop.
Colour
Rajgundha takes Valley Blue #4F87C7, one of the three Valleys colours — with its icon in white on it.
